This project was born from me being fed up with using my phone and spending all day surrounded by screens. I started playing more board games with my friends and one of the games we bought came with a really cool set of dice, which inspired me to make my own.
I designed them and made several tests using my resin 3D printer. After 3–4 attempts, I was happy with how they turned out, but I felt that, on their own, they lacked weight. So, throughout the week, I started thinking about the metaphor of “rolling the dice / playing” and “living life.” Because, to me, life is a game.
I knew I wanted to release them together with a print, but nothing I was drawing or designing felt quite right. Until I came up with the idea of making a print that emulated the old manuals that used to come with tools. That way, I could draw, include written pieces, and tie the whole work together.
Almost like an “essay,” bringing me closer to something I want to explore in the second book I’m currently writing (interweaving poems with my own essays, and so on.)
And that’s how “A Study of Luck” was born.
Each print weighs 250g, is signed and numbered, and comes with a set of 5 “Ugly Dice.”
As always, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Good luck ;)
